Lack Wisdom?

James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him."

Let's face it- with our technology driven society, we know a lot of things. We can google almost anything, learn anything, apply ourselves to anything...

I remember when I was 18 years old, I hired someone to change the brakes on my car. I was going to be gone, so I left the brake pads and car for them to get the job done. I returned to a note that said 'Sorry- I didn't have the right tool with me'. Well, what was a girl to do? I googled how to change brake pads, printed the instructions off and headed outside to do the job myself.

I wasn't a mechanic, honestly I knew to keep gas in the car, check the oil levels and tire pressure... and that was about it. But I knew how to google things- and I had determination. I was able to glean knowledge from the internet at the tip of my fingers.

In my nearly 18 years of marriage, however, I realized that simply googling 'how to resolve conflict' wasn't going to work when we had a disagreement, parented differently, or had to learn how to actually live successfully with another human being. Sure, there are lots of talking heads... a whole wide world of people with opinions. But we wanted to build our marriage right, and firmly planted on GOD. So... we sought HIM. God.

James tells us that if we lack wisdom, we need to ask God for it. James went on to say 'and upbraideth not'... in other words, God isn't looking to brow-beat you for not knowing something, or for making mistakes. God simply wants to help you out. God cares about your marriage, or your life decisions even more than you do! He is always FOR you, never against you. Through disappointments, mishaps, mistakes, freakish accidents... God is there, just waiting for you to ask for wisdom for the next chapter you are facing.

Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

This includes our need for wisdom! No matter what relationship need you may have- God's got you. Man, woman, teen, child- He has all the wisdom you need! Ask and let God instruct you, guide you, and teach you. Often, it's through His written word! Sometimes it's through experiences and what we can learn from them... and then there's God's still, small voice. Are you able to listen for it? In it- you will find the wisdom you lack. Just ask Him- He's waiting.
